…As Kemi  Remi-Dairo  launches foundation for free treatment

Hope, was rekindled for patience with hearing loss otherwise known as hearing impairment, following the launch of Kemi Remi-Dairo Hearing Foundation , weekend ,  with the purpose of  providing   free  medical treatment to affected Nigerians.

By the way, hearing loss   is a partial or total inability to hear. It may occur in one or both ears and can be  diagnosed when hearing  testing detects  that a person is unable to hear 25 decibels in at least one ear.

Promoter of the foundation, Kemi Remi-Dairo, who spoke during the launch of her book, ‘ My Silence World’ which encapsulates her five years  journey of hearing loss experience , at Marwa garden , Alausa Lagos.

She  explained that the platform was  created to provide both  financial  and technical support as well as educational support   to Nigerians  with hearing loss.

To achieve this aim, she informed that  the foundation was partnering with special team of otology surgeons, audiologists, speech-language pathologist and an educational consultant.

In addition, she said the foundation was also partnering with  international bodies and psychologists that would assist in addressing the challenges of hearing loss in the country.

Decrying the stigma associated with hearing loss, the Foundation said it would also create an awareness campaign against noise pollution, which it highlighted as one of the causes of impartial deafness. Aside this , the foundation also promised to provide hearing technologies , speech and hearing rehabilitation as well as educational assistance, especially  to indigent Nigerians with hearing loss.

Noting that exclusion from communication could have a significant impact on  an affected person’s everyday life, thereby causing feelings of loneliness, isolation and frustration, the  association therefore, advised parents to bring their children and wards for treatment, immediately they discovered early signs of hearing loss in them, noting that early detection and  treatment would forestall  an aggravation of the situation.

“ Hearing loss has different stages, which can be mild , moderate, severe or profound. The profound stage leads to deafness. Our mission is to create avenues that will put a stop to intense and high increase in hearing loss and ear problems in Nigeria”, the promoter said.
