Enugu student wins NNPC Science Quiz, Gowon, Abubakar, commend group over human capacity programme

Former heads of State, Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalam Abubakar, have  commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation for its efforts at building human capacity and driving local content in the Nigerian petroleum industry.

The former military leaders made the  commendation at the 2018 NNPC National Science Quiz Competition in Abuja.

At the end of the competition, Enugu State came tops, with Okeke Tony Kabilan from Spring of Life International School clinching the title, while Igban Emmanuel, from Ambassadors College Ota, representing Ogun State and Alikah Joseph Ehiagwina, from Bosco Science Academy, representing Edo State, came second and third respectively.

Abdulsalami Abubakar commended the NNPC for providing the platform for Nigerian youths to showcase their  talents to the rest of the world.

According to him, through the years, the NNPC has demonstrated unflinching commitment to the growth and sustenance of qualitative indigenous manpower across all areas of the hydrocarbon value chain.

He also lauded Yakubu Gowon, for setting up the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, stating that the scheme had helped foster national unity and integration.

Speaking in the same vein, Gowon said the quiz competition is a good corporate social responsibility initiative, while he commended the corporation for using it as a platform for human capacity development.
