ABAKALIKI—EBONYI women have been urged to engage in active politics not minding the odds or challenges being faced by women in Nigeria’s political landscape as every woman with capacity has the right to compete in any electoral contest in the country.
The women who were drawn from Ebonyi North senatorial district comprising Abakaliki, Izzi, Ebonyi and Ohaukwu local government areas of the state took turn to express their determination to be part of the 2019 general elections even as they insisted that women have the capacity to outperform the menfolk, if given the opportunity in the 2019 general election.
Speaking during a town hall meeting on “Enhancing the capacity of women to engage in 2019 election” organized by Actionaid through Participatory Development Alternative PDA at San Diego Hotel, Abakaliki, the Chief Executive Officer, CEO of PDA, Victoria Eze debunked the insinuation in some quarters that women who engage in active politics in the country were prostitutes.
According to her, such insinuations were actually designed by men or the society to create a barrier for the women not to be able to participate in politics or develop the needed capacity to undertake electoral adventures for the betterment of the country.
“It is simply one of the ways men use to outweigh the women in politics; no woman is a prostitute but if a woman is a prostitute, then the men are also prostitutes if there is anything like that.”
