ABUJA- The Dankwambo Grassroots Network (DGN) has called on Nigerians to support the presidential ambition of Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State in 2019.

The group’s National Secretary, Sunny Okoro, while briefing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, said the governor’s giant stride in transforming Gombe state has made him the right man to pilot the affairs of the nation.

To unseat the incumbent, Okoro said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) needs a true nationalist like Dankwambo with unblemished record in public service and whose primary constituency is Nigeria and not some regional or ethnic affiliations.

While calling on Dankwambo to formally declare to contest for the 2019 presidency, Okoro urged political coalitions and friends of good governance to rally round the governor if Nigerians are truly desirous of building a better country.

He said Nigerians can no longer watch as the country’s democratic and state institutions are weakened and used as a tool to clamp down on voices of dissent, intimidate political rivals and systematically take Nigeria on the path of totalitarianism.

“Consequently, it has become imperative for true nationalists to rally round and reverse Nigeria’s descent into a failed state. Neutrality, at this point, is complicity,” he said.

“We can no longer fold our hands while non-state actors continue to invade our towns and villages killing and maiming our fellow compatriots unchallenged. Our people now live in perpetual fear; unsure when the merchants of death will strike next,” he added.
