THE Governor Rotimi Akeredolu led tendency in the All Progressive Congress in Ondo State yesterday affirmed that the governor was not jittery over the prospects of adopting direct primaries in the selection of candidates to represent the party in the forthcoming General Election.
The party nevertheless admitted that there was contention over the issue inspired by the faction of the party loyal to Senator Ajayi Boroffice which had vowed to enthrone the system of direct primaries as against the inclination of those allegedly inclined to the Akeredolu led faction of the party.
Noting the brewing contention on the issue, the party’s Assistant State Publicity Secretary, Oladimeji Ayodele said in a statement in Akure that the leadership of the party in the state “is not jittery over direct primaries and is comfortable with any of the lawful options.
This is coming despite the discordant voices between leaders of the party over which option to adopt by the party. The party, however, agreed that “No doubt the discourse of the option to be adopted for the forthcoming APC primaries election into elective offices for both State and National Assembly has been a contending one in the political space.
“However, it is inappropriate for anyone to contemplate that the leader of the party in the State and our dear Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, in particular, is jittery over whichever option adopted. The party also denied that “disharmony exists within the state chapter of the party.
