ABUJA- The National Medical Association, NMA FCT has nominated a caretaker committee to steer the affairs of the association, following the suspension of the former exco base on allegation of recklessness in the management of the affairs of NMA.

The suspension was made at an emergency general meeting held yesterday in Abuja.

According to Dr. Nwanodu Eloka, Treasurer NMA FCT, the suspension of the current exco is as a result of the irregularities and fraudulent behavior recorded in the last training by the suspended chairman of NMA FCT, Dr Achonwa Jude.

Eloka revealed that majority of the members were not happy with the conduct and activities going on. He added that the house had written to suspended chairman and given him time to address this issue.

“He has done nothing for over 2 weeks now. Apparently he has held on to his own decision, now the mantle of leadership has been taken away from him. It’s just unfortunate. Eloka said.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the caretaker committee nominated by NMA, Dr. Chira Obiora Uzuchukwu, consultant, family physician UATH Gwagwalada said the suspended exco had the mandate of screening the members that are about to go into election of NMA 2018, they introduced all sort of kangaroo activities, corruption, financial misappropriation, issuing of receipt, doctoring receipt, even hiding of attendance register, favoritism and lots more.

“The congress demanded for a fair activity but the past exco refused to heed the calling and advice of the congress including the elders. Elder’s forum actually intervened in this process and they were stubborn in that” Obiora said.

Dr. Obiora noted that, the negligence of the suspended exco led to collection of signatories. “About 640 signatories were collected. We only need 15 signatories or 20 signatories from centres that made up NMA, he said.

“Decisions were reached, people were made to air their minds, opinions were rose, and issues were discussed. And the decision reached here today is that the ruling exco was suspended and that is what stands today”

Dr Obiora said, “As they were suspended, a caretaker committee was raised to run the affairs of association. Today I have been nominated as the chairman of the caretaker committee of NMA FCT”

He said the caretaker committee is a short-term government that not going to stay for a long time. “In the next two weeks the new exco will emerge. By tomorrow we will publish the list of those that will be contesting, so that they start campaign immediately” he added

The nominated chairman of the caretaker committee advices that, any member that is doing business with the suspended exco should know that they are doing that, at their own risk. Because whatever they do with them stands null and void.

Dr Obiora urges banks and financial institutions, to know that, no money should leave the association account. He added that, NMA Association account stands frozen from today until stated otherwise by this caretaker committee.
