NO fewer than five persons were feared dead after a boat capsized in Lagos, yesterday evening.
An eyewitness said the boat was coming from CMS and heading to Ikorodu, when the incident occurred.
Bodies of the victims were brought to the jetty at Ipakodo, from where they were taken to the General Hospital in Ikorodu by the Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS.
However, the General Manager of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Tiamiyu Adeshina, who confirmed the news to Vanguard yesterday, said he could not immediately confirm the number of casualties.
Also, a source in Lagos State Waterways Authority, LASWA, disclosed to Vanguard that no fewer than 13 passengers have been rescued, while search for two more passengers has been intensified by rescue agencies.
The source said: “I can tell you that it is a 20-passenger boat. And after the mishap, five bodies were recovered and 13 rescued, so far.
”The incident occurred at 5:20p.m., minutes after the boat left the NIWA Jetty at CMS.”
