Ex-N-Delta militants raise alarm over plot to derail Amnesty Programme

By Soni Daniel

Abuja—Barely two months after President Muhammadu Buhari appointed a new Coordinator for the Presidential Amnesty Programme, ex-militants have raised the alarm that there was a plan by some aggrieved persons led by a retired military officer to destabilise the programme and throw the Niger Delta into another round of militancy and chaos.

In a statement in Abuja by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Augustine Egba, the forum of former militants in the Niger Delta, accused the retired military officer, who was recently removed from the Presidential Amnesty Programme, of threatening to cause mayhem unless he was restored to his former post.

The forum accused the unnamed retired military officer of blackmail in order to stampede the new PAP Coordinator, Professor Charles Dokubo, to recall him to the programme.

The ex-agitators also vowed to resist every move by the former military officer and his gang to return to the Amnesty Programme and alerted the Presidency of the move of the group to disrupt the programme.
