Plateau State youth activist, Comrade Pius Hommen, has charged Nigerians, particularly the youths of Plateau State, to commit themselves to the unity, peace and progress of the state in particular and Nigeria in general.
Mr. Hommen stated this while addressing a crowd of youths on the occasion of his birthday which he celebrated with orphans, the poor and indigent widows in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Wednesday, 28th of February, 2018.
He reminded all those present that “Nigeria remains the only nation we can call our own. Therefore, it is our duty and responsibility as citizens to work for her unity, peace and progress, irrespective of the challenges of nationhood she is currently facing.
“There is no nation in the world that has not passed through what Nigeria is going through today, yet, with the commitment of their youths, they were able to surmount such challenges and become great nations. Nigeria can even be greater if we remain committed to the ideals of our founding fathers who braved so many storms to birth and bequeath a nation we call our own today to us.”
The youth leader also used the opportunity to call on all indigenes and residents of Plateau State to support the government of Rt. Hon Simon Bako Lalong in promoting good neighbourliness and peaceful co-existence among all the peoples residing in the State.
“It is not only for us to support these initiatives of the government but also for us to ensure that the government is empowered to continue in these great strides beyond 2019”, he said.
On why he chose to celebrate his birthday with the downtrodden of the society, Hommen said he felt fulfilled that he was able to bring smiles to the face of the needy especially as part of his Lenten observations. “As a Christian, you know the Holy Book is very clear on how we should treat the less privileged among us. I am happy that I have been able to use this opportunity to remind these people that they have not been forgotten, and you can see how happy they are”, he concluded.
In a related development, a Jos-based civil society organisation, Plateau Regeneration Group, PRG, has also felicitated with Comrade Pius Hommen on his birthday. In a statement signed by Barr Katlong Danbaba, president of the group, and made available to the media, the organisation described Hommen as “an excellent leader with a generous heart whose humility, patriotism and discipline have made him a model for other youths to follow”.
