ABUJA— National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, has called on Nigerian women to help rescue the country from the men who he accused of failing to rise to the challenge of leadership having “disappointed the nation.”
Secondus, at a forum organised by the PDP Women to mark International Women’s Day in Abuja, yesterday, said men have failed to justify the confidence reposed in them and urged the women folk to contribute their quota in the development of the nation by seeking elective offices, especially in 2019.
The PDP chairman also counselled women in the country to emulate the virtues of the late Mrs. Olufunmilayo Ransome-Kuti and Madam Margaret Ekpo in rescuing the country from the hands of incompetent men sitting in exalted offices.
He said: “Women, on behalf of the men, I want to apologise to all of you, women in Nigeria, women in Africa, because African men have disappointed both the women and the children. Vote and defend your votes. In these (2019) elections, women must be mobilised in all the 120,000 polling units in our country.
“Women must rise and fight for their rights. If you don’t fight for your rights, for your children, the next generation will have nothing. Any nation that ignores the women is doomed because we all came out from women,” he said.
