By Simon Ebegbulem

BENIN—AHEAD of the March 3, 2018 local government elections in Edo State, All Progressives Congress, APC, has fixed January 24, 2018 for  its primaries to elect candidates that will fly the flag of the party in the elections.

Meanwhile, the party leadership has rescinded its earlier decision to ban former council chairmen and other former council administrators from participating in the election. The state secretary of the party, Mr Lawrence Okah, yesterday, told Vanguard: “APC is a party that listens to the voice of the electorate and when it was discovered that the decision did not go down well with some members of the party, the leaders decided to allow everybody to go into the race as a listening party.

“You can see that everybody is happy and the state governor wants all Edo indigenes to be happy, and that is leadership,” he stated.

However, a statement by the state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Chris Azebamwan, said that the earlier January 22, 2018 date fixed for the primaries was no longer feasible, adding that the party will ensure free and fair primaries for its aspirants.
