Players of NPFL side, Rivers United on Tuesday stormed the Rivers State government House to protest their unpaid entitlements.
The protest was a demand for the state government to off-set their sign-on fees of 2014/15.
Speaking under the condition of anonymity, one of the players revealed that players got angry when they got information that Governor Wike had already approved the payment of their money but the disbursement has failed to commence.
Players protesting payment of sign-on fees and salaries is common in the NPFL and in an attempt to deal with this recurring issue, the league management had advised clubs to pay attractive salaries instead of sign-on fees accompanied by unappealing salaries; a strategy very few clubs have implemented.
Rivers United will kick-off the 2017/2018 NPFL season against El-Kanemi Warriors.
