O fewer than 2,000 members of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State, have decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, declaring total support for the state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.

Speaking on behalf of the decampees at a ceremony organized by the Bridge Builders, a socio-political pressure group within the PDP in Agbor, leader of the decampees, Ralph Obi-Okoh, regretted their sojourn in APC, describing APC as a ship without a captain.

Obi-Okoh took a swipe at the leadership of the opposition party in the state, describing the ongoing leadership tussle and cold war in APC as very unfortunate and counter-productive.

He also claimed the APC lacked unity of purpose, direction, cohesion of ideas and coordination, alleging that the party was notorious for propaganda, saying: “These were some of the key reasons that informed our decision to decamp to the PDP.”

Speaking , Chairman, Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Mr. Sunny Ogwu, who was one of those that received the decampees, advised them to leave their bitter experiences in the APC behind and embrace their new party and the goodness associated with it.

Ogwu who was joined by the Chairman of the Bridge Builders, Mr. Chuks Emuebie and the Special Assistant to the governor on Community Relations, Mr. Peter Idion, admonished them to be totally committed to the PDP by working to ensure total victory for the party in the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

The trio of Ogwu, Emuebie and Idion assured the decampees that they would be beneficiaries of the various empowerment packages put together by the governor for loyal and active party members in the area, just as they described the PDP as a massive umbrella capable of accommodating and sheltering everyone who desired to associate with and work for the party.
