FAST rising On Air Personality, OAP, Olayemi Akande, a former financial and investment expert, has at last revealed why and how she ventured into the broadcasting profession where she is presently holding sway through her programme, Opinions with Olayemi which has featured regularly in three radio stations in Lagos.
Asked what motivated her to go into broadcasting, the Ondo State-born damsel and a graduate of Economics from the University of Ibadan, was in a cheerful mood as she responded thus: “I always wished to be in the media/entertainment world since I was a little girl, but I did not have the chance because my parents believed more in education that will prepare me for a white collar career.

So, I had to put my wish aside for a while till two years ago when I decided to go into the area I had always desired, especially now that I can make such decision myself.”
She informed that apart from Opinions WithOlayemi, “I also run a programme on finance on Rainbow FM, because that was my core discipline and won’t mind running more in future. But I don’t want to be restricted to the area of finance alone, hence my other show on relationship and life because I like reaching out to people”.
Given that her relationship programme runs into the night, it was inevitable she would be asked how she is able to cope with her male admirers in and outside the studio. In her smart response, Yemi, as she is fondly called by pals, said: “I appreciate all my fans whether male or female. I take the compliments with a smile and work on the denigration. There is really nothing a male fan wants to say that will get into my head. I see myself on a long walk and I have covered just very small distance. No time to relax and savour compliments. I still have a lot to achieve.”
