SAINT Saviour School Ikoyi Endowment Fund has concluded plans to host the Lagos Kids Mini-Marathon competition in Lagos.
The event which is scheduled to hold on November 18, 2017, is expected is to inspire Nigerian kids to become more physically active and imbibe such healthy habits from an early age.
A statement by the organizers said celebrity fitness experts and enthusiasts like Kate Henshaw, Maje Ayida, Leslie Okoye and Ifeoma Ojora would be at the event titled: Active Kids Rock.
The statement reads: ‘’St. Saviour’s School Ikoyi is the oldest independent British curriculum primary School in Nigeria. It was established in 1951, by leading business members of the Nigerian Expatriate community in Lagos.
‘’In 2011, the Board of Trustees established the Endowment Fund for the School to sustain the vision of promoting excellent primary education in Nigeria and to safeguard the future of the School. The Endowment Fund is a fund set up to cater for the capital projects and non-recurring expenses in the School which is achieved through annual fundraising events.
‘’The Endowment Fund plans to host a 5km Inter School Marathon titled ‘ Lagos Kids Mini Marathon’ themed “Active Kids Rock”. The Mini Marathon is the first kids-focused marathon event in Nigeria and promises to be an annual event. The goal is to inspire Nigerian kids to become more physically active throughout their lifetime and imbibe such healthy habits from an early age.
‘’Part of the proceeds from the event will be used to support the “Slum to School” charity, a volunteer-driven social development organization operating in Africa whose vision is to transform the society by empowering disadvantaged children in slums to realize their full potential through the provision of educational scholarships, health support and other psycho-social support.
‘’Celebrity fitness experts and enthusiasts like Kate Henshaw, Maje Ayida, Leslie Okoye and Ifeoma Ojora have been taking the wellness message to various schools in Lagos and will be live at the Marathon to warm up with the kids on the D-day.’’
