PROVERB 19: 21 says, “There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.”
The problem of man since creation has emanated mostly from what goes on in his heart. It is his inability to tame the negative wide thought popping up in his heart that brings him at variance with his Creator and thus lands him into trouble.
Many people that do wicked and abominable things in the world today are those who place their thought over the word and counsel of God. The thought of the heart is always striving to avail itself of every favourable circumstance to gratify its propensities to pride, ambition, evil desire and corrupt-ion of all kinds. There is nothing as false and deceitful as the heart of man.
It is not only deceitful in its apprehension of things but also in the hopes and promises which it nourishes and in the assurances that it gives which is unsearchable by others, so that neither can a man know his own heart, nor can any other know that of his neighbour’s.
The evil imagination in the heart of man was so terrible to the extent that even God threatened at one point in time to destroy man because he (man) had replaced the original image of righteousness and holiness of which he was created, with his own image of sin and wickedness.
Genesis 6:5-6: “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.”
The expression above does not imply any passion or uneasiness in God because nothing can create disturbance in the mind of God, but it expresses His just and holy displeasure against sin and sinners, against man using the heart that was given to him by God to do evil. He was so pressed by the wickedness that have taken control of the heart of men and which has made them to be disobedient to Him.
The fact remains that while men turn their heart into a workshop where evil are produced conti-nuously, God who created the hearts as a spiritual interface by which He interact with men become provoked and thus with-draws His goodness from men except they repent.
He knows the many devices that are in men’s hearts, even those against His counsels. His power is infinite. He is omnipotent and omniscience.
Various men have various evil intentions being design in their hearts according to how their inclination or interest leads them, but the counsel of the Lord that shall stand regardless of whatever becomes of the devices of men. God’s counsel often has a way of breaking into men’s measures and baffles their devices.
This should be a big lesson to everyone not minding what and who the person is in the society. It does not matter if you are a political leader or a common criminal, the truth is that you cannot outwit God or oppose what He has purposed because nobody has challenged God and go scot free. Nobody can frustrate or obstruct His purpose; for He will do all His pleasure, and in His way mountains shall become a plain.
The Fact That His Counsel Shall Stand
Exodus 5:1-2 says: “And after-ward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness. And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.”
There is no controversy on the authority of God in matters concerning this world and the people therein. He created heaven and earth and He has the power to control all the living and non-living things on earth. He has power to control all the forces both divine and devilish in and under the universe. He alone has the power to do this or that and by implication, whenever any genuine child of God, a true believer whose name is in the book of life allows the counsel of the Lord to prevail in his/her mind, he/she will experience victory.
Isaiah 46:10 says: “Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.”
Brethren, whatever God deter-mines shall be done. He deter-mined to make a world, and He made it. He determined to create man, and He created him. He determined to use Moses, a timid and stammering youth to take His people out of Egypt, out of the strong hand of Pharaoh thereby breaking the yoke of their slavery, and it was done. He dried up the sea for the sake of His people and let them through. He determined to use Pharaoh to demonstrate His power and it was so.
When the world of Noah got Him provoked, He determined to destroy them and poured His wrath upon them and drowned them.
He determined that at a certain period God should be manifested in the flesh and it was so and that He should taste death for every man, and bring salvation to them and He did so. He determined that His Gospel should be preached to the entire world and behold it has already nearly overran the whole earth.
He determined that The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries would be established and it was so. There is no opposing counsel that can disrupt the purpose of God. His counsels and thoughts, which refer to the future, shall be accomplished in their times. Such as the old serpent, the devil, which He will cast into the abyss, into the bottomless pit, where He has determined that it will be during the thousand years’ reign of Christ and the saints.
Beloved, whatsoever the LORD pleases, that He does, so His counsel stands for ever. He chang-es not His purpose, His decree is not frustrated, His designs are accomplished and none of the devices of His foes can thwart His decree for a moment. Men’s purpose could be blown to the wind but the eternal purposes are firmer than the earth.
Men come and go, sons follow their parents to the grave, but the undisturbed mind of God moves on in an unbroken serenity, produ-cing ordained results with unerr-ing certainty. No man can expect his will or plan to be carried out from age to age but the Lord’s wisdom and designs run on from century to century. His power to fulfil his purposes can by no means be diminished by the lapses of years. Therefore, whatever that is not standing in agreement with the counsel of God in your life should be discarded to allow His guid-ance prevails for only His counsel shall stand.
