lagos—A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos, Chief Amos Olayinka, has kicked against the calls for a return to regionalism, saying the idea, if considered, may take Nigeria backward.
He said this yesterday in Lagos at a PDP’s stakeholders meeting in Ikeja.
The party stalwart said adopting regionalism in a multi-ethnic country like Nigeria is like calling for regional impunity, adding that the factors that ensured the relative success of the concept in previous systems, are not obtainable now.
Throwing his weight behind agitation for the country’s restructuring, Olayinka canvassed a restructuring that will be a bottom-up approach, stating that development at the grassroots should be the pivotal drive for it.
