THE Acting Secretary of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Edet Bassey, has congratulated members of the party for their peaceful conduct,  during Saturday’s  state-wide congress for the election of three delegates from each local government area of the state, preparatory to the non-elective National Convention of the party coming up later this year.

Bassey in a statement, said “The party wishes to extend its sincere appreciation to all the security agencies specifically the Nigerian Police and Department of State Security DSS, for providing security coverage for peaceful conduct of the congress and ensuring that the exercise was hitch free.

“We commend the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and its staff particularly the Electoral Officers in the 31 local government areas who not only gave their time and counsel but monitored the event to its successful conclusion.

“Though there were few cases of disaffection with the emergence of certain candidates at the congress, the party has established internal machinery to receive and redress such complaints. We wish to express our aversion to activities of disgruntled and renegade elements whose preoccupation is to attempt to factionalise and disparage the party in order to achieve their selfish political ambition. We assure our loyal party men and women that the perpetrators of these anti-APC activities in the state shall soon be apprehended and brought to book.

“Finally, we are indeed grateful to the National Leadership of our great party for the support and encouragement of Muhammadu Buhari, we commend the patience and tenacity of the five man Congress Supervisory Committee from Abuja chaired by Gideon Meffor for enduring the inclement weather and rigors of traversing venues of the congresses.”
