Akure—NO fewer than six herdsmen again invaded the farm of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Chief Olu Falae in Akure, the Ondo state capital and destroyed his crops.
According to reports, only the timely intervention of policemen from the state police command prevented loss of lives.
However, reports had it that over N5 million worth of maize were destroyed by the cattle that grazed on the farm located at llado in Akure North area of Ondo state.
The source explained that the policemen drafted to the farm had to shoot into the air to drive away the herdsmen and their cows in the middle of the night.
The Personal Assistant to Chief Falae, Moshood Raji, confirmed the destruction of the farm by the herdsmen.
Meantime, the four people that were kidnapped on Monday by some unknown gunmen on Ikare-Owo Expressway have been released.
They were kidnapped on Oba/Ose area of the state while travelling in a commercial vehicle to Akure from Ikare, the headquarters of Akoko.
One of the occupants of the vehicle, who put up a fight, was shot dead while the others were abducted.
Police lmage maker Femi Joseph said the abducted persons were released following the efforts of the men of the command.
Joseph said: “ On getting the information our men swung into action and when we closed in on the kidnappers they had no choice but to release the victims.”
He added that two persons have also been arrested in connection with the killing of the Baptist cleric, Pastor Deji Joshua in Okitipupa area of the state.
Joshua was killed by gunmen who also stole his motorcycle.
Joseph added that the suspects are in police custody while the stolen motorcycle has been recovered.
He added: ”We have arrested two of them (suspects) but we can’t disclose their names now for security reason. We are going after the others and we will get them.’’
