JALINGO—THE Chief Judge of Taraba State, Justice Justine Tuktur, and a newly-wedded couple, escaped death after gunmen attacked them at Abaji village in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

The chief judge was coming back from Abuja where she attended a wedding of her daughter, last Saturday.

Narrating the incident, the Chief Judge said she was informed on her way back that there was crisis involving the Tiv people in Katsina-Ala to Abaji, the road to her village.

According to her, after series of consultations on phone through the people on the road, she was told that the problem had subsided.

She said: “At 6 p.m, after Katsina-Ala, we proceeded to Abaji village. There was still time to travel to my village and I said since there was no more crisis, let me just go home and have a rest.

“As soon as we passed Abaji village, I saw a red vehicle ahead, acting like it broke down. Before my driver could concentrate, I heard gunshots. Bullets hit the car. My police escort responded.

“Although my vehicle got damaged, I must praise the driver because he saved the whole situation by driving the SUV in reverse gear for close to a kilometre.”
