A Community Development Association, CDA, known as Ajara Lopo-Vetho CDA, in the Badagry Local Government area of Lagos State rolled out the drums as it empowered some of the community women to mark the International Women’s Day.

Speaking at the elaborate event, the first of its kind in Badagry, Chairman of the Association, Comrade Monday Denagan Honfovu, who also doubles as the President of Badagry Community Youth Association, BCYA, said, the idea to assist the vulnerable women was borne out of the saying, “if you empower a woman, you empower the nation”.

The sum of N25,000 was given to each of the ten women who participated in the pilot programme to augment their investment capital. Honfovu therefore, promised to double the amount in the sixth month as well as increase the number of beneficiaries every six months.

Honfovu enjoined other privileged citizens and organisations to step up Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), as a way of bringing succour to indigent members of the society.

He tasked government at all levels to always put the people first as that remains the primary purpose of leadership and government.
