The President of the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, Dr. John Onyebueze, has tasked politicians in Anambra State to move away from mounting campaigns of calumny against doctors and other rivals in the Anambra governorship contest.

Making particular reference to certain online attacks on Dr. Tony Nwoye, a member of the House of Representatives currently in the race for the governorship, Onyebueze said the attacks launched against Nwoye were far from the truth, especially given his personal knowledge of the medical doctor turned politician.

Onyebueze’s statement followed online attacks linking Nwoye to cultism and killing.

Affirming that such attacks were far from the truth , he said: “It’s rather unfortunate that people would condescend to such ignominious and inglorious level to sponsor such and tarnish the integrity of perceived opponents with fabrications of calumny just for power and money, and to undo opposition in an election.

“One thing stands very clear, they  did not do the background search on Tony Nwoye properly.

“For one,Tony Nwoye was never in any cultists group in the university. Unfortunately again, the incident happened in 2002 when Mbadinuju was the governor. By that 2002, Tony was still battling with his second MBBS programme in the medical college, and was jumping from one classroom to the other and one exam to another to scale through the huddle of the dreaded 2nd MBBS exams.

“We encourage the writer and their sponsors to do more background check and trump up propaganda that may appear believable but not this kind of cheap, laughable, immature and despicable one that only mirrors them as  desperados.”

“I tell you one thing, and from experience, when opponents’ only tool is campaign of calumny, they have already conceded victory ab initio to the better candidate. Anambra needs better than the present drivers. Anambra needs excellence in leadership. Anambra needs tested, trusted and dependable personalities.

“Let’s leave cheap propaganda alone and showcase governance. Let’s convince the people by our actions and antecedents rather than deception.”
