INTERNATIONAL Centre for Leadership Development Nigeria, ICLDNG, a Non Governmental  Organisation, in partnership with Facebook’s initiative to educate African youths on  safer, better internet use, has organised a one-day summit  for secondary schools in Lagos to mark the 2017 World Internet Day  tagged, “ Be the change: Unite for a better internet.

The summit held at Government Senior College, Ipaja, Lagos, saw students being trained on cyber securit and the need to harness the opportunities  of the internet.

Executive Director, ICLDNG, Felix Iziomoh, said the training became necessary to orientate youths on the dangers of  cyber crimes and  encourage them to  make use of  the opportunities the internet offers.

According to the first graduate of  International Institute for Global Leadership U.S.A (IIGL)  and Board President, “Nigerians, especially the youths need proper training and re-orientation on proper internet use. When they get informed, they will be able to shun cyber crimes and become better equipped to harness the opportunities of  the net promoting their business ideas, their creativity and even use the net for academic purpose.”

Echoing the words of Akua Gyekye, Public Policy Manager Facebook, Africa, who said nothing is more important than the safety of the people who use Facebook and the security of their environment, Iziomoh said the youths are also being taught the implication of information they share on social media.

His words, “ Many youths don’t know that information and pictures they share on social media might expose them, and their families to dangers. And in some cases  make them lose employment opportunities.”
