Pereotubo who is one of the top contenders for the Ijaw Youth Council,  IYC, Presidency warned that recent comments credited to Peterside,  saying that it was not the mandate of the agency to set up the Maritime University, was capable of derailing the fragile peace in the Niger Delta region.

Meanwhile, a statement by the Head, Corporate Communication , NIMASA, Mr. Isichei Osamgbi, denied reports that the agency was opposed to the establishment of the Maritime University at Okerenkoko.

He said, “The benefits derivable from setting up the institution will be numerous. Apart from becoming a citadel for knowledge and development of human capital, job opportunities will be created for Nigerians, particularly the community.”
