THE Institute of Delta Studies, Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State, has unveiled a book titled Perspective on the Development of The Niger Delta with antidotes to the unending Niger Delta crisis, at a round table organized by the school.

The Director of the Institute, Prof. Daniel Omoweh, said at the unveiling; “The essence of the book is to task members of the academia, military and members of the civil society to brain storm on the lingering Niger Delta crisis and proffer best practices to end the crisis and avert it in the future.

Prof Omoweh who is the chief facilitator of the round table said, “The round table is one of the programmes of the institute, which kick started in 2014 and will end in 2020. It is aimed at applying critical skills, knowledge and alternative methods in resolving oil and other related crisis across the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. The programme is aimed at disseminating, in a book form, an assemblage of scientific and scholarly data based on Niger Delta region in comparison with other coastal communities in Africa and the world.”

The lead speaker, Prof. Petterson Ogon, in his paper titled, Democratizing Resource Governance and Peace in Niger Delta, called on governments in the oil rich Niger Delta to make good use of the book, and make good use of funds accruing to them, adding that, “The region must democratically elect those that are interfacing between it and the various tiers of governments.”
