THE Computer Professionals Reg-istration Council of Nigeria, CPN, weekend, refuted reports, saying that there was no leadership crisis rocking the agency as reported in the media.

This followed  a media report last week insinuating that there was uncertainty as CPN’s leadership crisis deepens.

The Head, Public Relations of CPN, Raji-Awe, Aderemi, in a statement made available to Technology journalists in Lagos said that the report  was misleading and an outright distortion of facts.

According to the CPN media boss, the Council at its 79th meeting held in October, 2016 approved the appointment of Mr. Achumba C. Allwell as the Registrar/Secretary to Council having come top in the interview conducted for candidates who applied for the office.

The new Registrar, a consummate and prominent IT practitioner, according to him, has since resumed work at the CPN Secretariat.

“The atmosphere at the CPN Secretariat is that of peace and tranquility, devoid of rancor or acrimony as portrayed in the media report.

“It has become imperative to correct the misrepresentations for posterity sake and also to correct any erroneous impression that the report may  have created in the minds of members of the IT profession and the general public.

“It should also be noted that all the statutory individuals, bodies and groups that should be part of the Council as specified by Act 49 of 1993 which established the Council are part of the 2015 – 2017 Council.

“As the apex regulatory body in the education and practice of IT in Nigeria, the establishment remains committed to enhancing industry standards in order to strategically position IT for significant contribution to national development”, he explained.

CPN  is a body charged with the control and supervision of the Computing Profession in the country.

It was established to determine what standards of knowledge and skills are to be attained by persons seeking to become members of the computing profession and improving those standards from time to time as circumstances may permit, to secure, in accordance with the provision of the Decree, the establishment and maintenance of a register of persons seeking to be registered under the Decree to practise the computing profession, and the publication from time to time, of the list of these persons and to  perform any other functions as bestowed on it by the provisions of the decree.
