THE late former Governor of Niger State, Abdulkadir Kure, was laid to rest yesterday in Minna amidst tears by family members, friends and political associates.
The first series of prayers were held in the deceased’s GRA residence with Chief Imam of Minna, Sheikh Ibrahim Abu Fari, officiating.
The prayer session was a follow up to series of prayers attended by the Etsu Lapai, Alhaji Umar Bago Tafida; Estu Agaie, Alhaji Yusuf Nuhu and Emir of Minna, Alhaji Farouq Bahago after the corpse arrived Minna, Tuesday night.
The body was later ferried to the Eid prayer ground for funeral prayers at about 11.30a.m. However, it took a while to get the body into an ambulance for the journey as hundreds of sympathisers struggled to have a glimpse and touch the body.
Dignitaries at the burial included former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ibrahim Mantu; former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa; former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Minister of Defence, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, and Daar Communications Chairman, Chief Raymond Dokpesi.
Former Governor of Niger, Babangida Aliyu; Sheikh Ahmed Lemu, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Senator David Mark, and former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, among others, were also at the funeral.
In his tribute, Governor Bello of Niger State said the people would continue to be proud of the deceased’s contributions to the development of the state and the country in general.
