The right and most suitable way out of the economic recession currently ravaging the Nigerian economy is formulation and implementation of economic policies that will strengthen the manufacturing sector and attract foreign investors both as Foreign Direct Investors (FDI) and Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPI). I take this position because, the manufacturing sector is critical to every economy across the globe and Nigeria’s case is no different.

Recently, Ozoro, the headquarters of Isoko North Local Government Areas in Delta State witnessed a unique event which impact would continue to reverberate in the educational and political circles for a long time to come. It was the commissioning of the 14,000-seat capacity stadium of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro. The stadium was completed in a record time of twelve months and was done through direct labour using the technical staff of the institution. A highly elated Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who praised to high heavens the efforts of the rector, Dr Jacob Oboreh described the sports complex as a wonderful work.

Ebonyi has taken the rigorous way knowing that we do not have a means of survival as a state. The allocation coming to Ebonyi from the Federal Government is one of the least in the country. Our Internally Generated Revenue, IGR last September was only about N7m to N8 m and allocation to the state was just N1.750billion. So, it is a dire situation.

The 3-day event kicked off at the school premises in Gbagada on Friday, 9th of December with a road-walk, football match and Christmas carol service; and ended with a thanksgiving and anniversary party on Sunday, 11th December, 2016. The Alumni day held on Saturday, 10th of December and it saw ex-students of the school from various walks of life, re-uniting at their Alma Mater.
