Rivers APC demands transfer of REC over rigging allegations

By Jimitota Onoyume

PORT HARCOURT—Rivers State chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, has called for the redeployment of  the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Elder Ikoiwak Aniedi, saying he allegedly connived with Governor Nyesom Wike to rig the rerun elections.

Chairman of the party in the state, Dr  Davies Ikanya, made the call in a statement by his media aide, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka.

Ikanya said the REC, Elder Ikoiwak, announced results  for Rivers East senatorial district, when elections in some units in three local government areas had not been concluded.

“The APC, Rivers State Chapter, has demanded the immediate redeployment of Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mr. Aniedi Ikoiwak, for colluding with Governor Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to rig the December 10, rerun legislative elections in the state in favour of PDP,” he said.

The party insisted that Governor Wike should submit himself to the probe being conducted by the Police on incidents around the elections.

Wike had said that people of the state would not appear before the police panel because the security body was allegedly behind killings during the rerun elections.
