ABEOKUTA — There is palpable tension in Ogijo in Sagamu local government area of Ogun State over the nomination of new monarch, the Ologijo of Ogijo in Sagamu local government.

The Melufen Opowo Royal Family (Rogbuwa branch) of Ogijo town has called on the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, to cancel the nomination made by the ruling house to produce the next monarch for the town.

This call was contained in petition written by the family on November 14, 2016 and signed by Chief Anata Kalejaiye Ateroko and Alhaji Mutiu Kalejaiye Atroko respectively.

The ruling house in the petition to Ogun state commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, alleged that the nomination process held at a meeting on the 8th November, 2016, was fraught with alleged interference, manipulation, distortion and outright mutilation by unnamed Sagamu Local Government officials in favour of their candidate.

The royal family of Ogijo however, urged the governor Ibikunle Amosun to order an investigation into the allegations with a view to establishing the roles of the individuals involved and bringing them to justice if found culpable.

In a swift reaction, the spokesman of the faction that the petition was written against, Olootu, Joseph Oluwuyiwa Ajayi told Vanguard that “the matter is being taken to court so I do not want to comment on it.”
