The Lagos State Government has embarked on capacity building of management staff  as well as setting machinery in motion to tackle challenges encountered in local government administration in the state through effective networking.

Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Muslim Folami, speaking at the opening ceremony of a retreat for management staff of the ministry, yesterday, in Ikeja, Lagos, said the forum had become imperative to educate the workforce on the plans, programmes and policies of the state government.

Meanwhile, the state government, yesterday, unveiled plan to host an annual street party, tagged, ‘The Lagos Street Party, TLSP, for one million residents of the state, even as it said Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, would be shut in order to host the event

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, who disclosed this at a media briefing in Alausa, Ikeja, on the upcoming event, added that the party, which will be an annual event, will hold its maiden edition on December 3 and 4, 2016.

According to him, capacity building for all staff would enable participants to have insight into emerging local government administration concept and application.

Folami, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communities and Communication, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, said the theme of the retreat, “Resolving Challenges in Local Government Administration through effective Networking,” was apt at the present economic recession in the country.
