ASABA—WORRIED by the increasing crime rate on the Asaba/Benin expressway, Delta State Government has embarked on vegetation control on the ever busy highway to check the ugly development.
The Director-General, Special Programmes, to the state governor, Chief Frank Omare, whose office is handling the assignment, lamented that criminals hide behind the over grown weeds to carry out their nefarious activities.
Omare, while inspecting the work done so far, said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Zanna Ibrahim, had complained over the situation of the road and the need for the state government to intervene.
He said: “The clearing of over grown weeds on the Benin-Asaba expressway was the responsibility of Federal Government but the Delta State Government has to intervene to save lives.”
