Barring any unforseen circumstances, some deadly militants that have been operating in the Ohaji/Egbema local government area of Imo State, will surrender their weapons to Governor Rochas Okorocha tomorrow.
According to a press statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Mr. Samuel Onwuemeodo, the event is expected to hold Wednesday in Government House, Owerri.
“Governor Rochas Okorocha will be leveraging on the amnesty programme to receive militants, who have been fighting as Avengers in the Ohaji/Egbema area of the state”, Onwuemeodo said.
While saying that the repentant militants have decided to embrace peace, the CPS also confirmed that “they will be expected to drop their weapons” at the event.
His words: “These are militants, who have been blowing pipelines and making the people in the area to have sleepless nights, until the Governor decided to take the bull by the horn”.
The CPS also said that the Governor has equally called on other Niger Delta Avengers or militants operating across the nation, to also drop their guns and embrace peace, in the overall interest of the nation and the citizenry.
