THE Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in Edo State, Mr Sam Olumekun, has disclosed that 3,000 persons have been de-registered in the state over multiple registration.
The REC read a riot act to political parties participating in the forthcoming governorship election in the state and urged them to abide by the INEC rules governing political campaigns warning that the INEC may sanction any political party involved in hate campaigns.
Speaking at a stakeholders meeting of Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, ICCES, where all the political parties were represented, the REC said he intends to midwife the most peaceful and violent free election that will serve as a model to other states.
“From our records, 3000 voters have been de-registered in the state for engaging in multiple registration. And one bad aspect of it also is that we have 474,000 persons who are yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs,” he stated.
The state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, said the police were ready for the election warning political actors to desist from empowering thugs, adding that “ anybody involved in violence will be dealt with.
