BENIN—EDO State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has blamed the withdrawal of seven courses at Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma, by the National Universities Commission, NUC, to the total neglect and abandonment of the university by the state government.

A statement by the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Chris Nekhikhare, in Benin, yesterday, lamented that the university under Governor Adams Oshiomole’s All Progressives Congress, APC government, was not only starved of operational funds, its infrastructure has not received any attention.

He said: “The undesirable financial starvation of Ambrose Alli University has brought about the NUC’s anticipated regulating measures. With regrets, we hereby alert Edo people that the NUC hammer has fallen on Ambrose Alli University.

“The woes confronting the university worsened yesterday, when the NUC withdrew accreditation for seven courses in the university. Some of the courses include Engineering, Architecture, Building, Biochemistry, Botany, Microbiology, and Political Science.

“According to the 2016 accreditation status report by the NUC, the above courses were unaccredited because of lack of qualified faculty members, good learning environment and appropriate teaching aides.”
