Gunmen storm UniJos VC’s home, kill one

Jos – Gunmen on Wednesday night invaded the private residence of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Sebastian Maimako in Eto Baba area of Jos North local government area of Plateau.

Though the intruders were not able to gain entrance into the building but two guards found in the compound were shot, while one person is receiving treatment in a hospital in Jos, the second person was said to have died as the result of incident.

A family source who did not want to be named said, “There was an attack last night at VC’s residence by unknown gunmen but they didn’t gain entrances to the house. The family members are safe only that the security men were seriously injured in the battle to safe the house. They have been taken to hospital.

“A policeman was shot on the leg and his gun taken away, one University security was shot on the head, the head was stitched and he is doing fine now. The other University security was shot on the chest and stomach, he is confirmed death and his corpse deposited at the mortuary.”

However, the VC was not at home at the time of the attack and the institution did not issue any statement at the time of this report

It would be recalled that Maimako took over as the Vice Chancellor of the institution over a month ago amidst controversy.
