WARRI— crude oil  spill from ruptured Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, Utorogun-Forcados Trunk line in Otor-Edo, has wreaked severe havoc in Okpare-Olomu and neighbouring communities in Delta State.

President-General of Okpare-Olomu community, Chief Asafe Oluku, who raised the alarm while conducting newsmen round a polluted river, explained that it was the 16-inch trunk line from Utorogun to Forcados that ruptured.

Oluku described the oil spill as a “major incident” that calls for immediate attention of relevant authorities, pointing out that it has affected economic activities of fish farmers and other users of the river in the whole area.

He appealed to the Federal and state governments to assist the community with relief materials to cushion the effects of the oil spill.
