Awka—MEDIA practitioners have been urged to endeavour to constantly improve their skills to be able to fit into the ongoing digitisation in the industry.

Managing Director of the state-owned Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Nze Uche Nworah, who spoke at the opening ceremony of a three-day workshop on news gathering and dissemination for the staff of the organisation in collaboration with Ebubechukwu Foundation, a non–governmental organisation in Awka yesterday, observed that there was intensified competition in the industry in which only those well equipped would succeed.

Nworah said: “We live in a world that is dynamic as every new day presents us with new challenges and opportunities.

“As Nigeria confronts new social, political and economic realities, it is our responsibility as journalists to interpret the developing stories for our various audiences in a timely manner and in the format that they can easily access.

“The journalist today requires a different set of skills and mindset to be able to operate. Modern day newsrooms require an attitude, creativity and discipline that see them adopt the concept of convergence, gathering and disseminating news through multiple platforms.”

The station’s director of news and current affairs, Mr. Gab Okpalaeze said ABS decided to organise the workshop to avoid being caught unprepared by the nuances of modern journalism.”
