Lagos State University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun has debunked claims in some quarters that crisis is currently rocking the institution over the de-harmonisation of staff school by the Lagos State Government.
The VC said attention of the school was drawn to a publication by The Sun newspaper dated April 2, titled: Fresh crisis in LASU over staff school teacher.
Countering the report, Fagbohun said although there was a meeting held in March where the decision of the state government on the de-harmonisation of the staff school was presented to the non-teaching staff unions; there is no looming crisis in LASU as the policy was not made by LASU Management but the government.
Further trashing any claim of embarking on strike by the institution, Fagbohun said any talk on strike will be against the spirit of the school. His words, “It is also instructive to inform the general public that in the spirit of rebranding and making the Lagos State University not only the preferred but the best in Nigeria and even beyond, all stakeholders, namely the State Government, LASU Alumni, Staff and Students’ Unions have all agreed to always seek peaceful means of resolving issues that may arise in the university.
“Therefore, Any talk of strike action by third parties on the issue of de-harmonization is not only misplaced, but against the spirit of a new LASU.” added the VC.
All efforts to get the chairman of Senior Staff of Association of Nigerian Universities SSANU-LASU chapter, Comrade Saheed Oseni proved abortive.
