lagos—Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) said yesterday that the ongoing fuel scarcity ravaging the country constitutes a violation to the fundamental rights of Nigerians.

To this end, it urged President Muhammadu Buhari to expeditiously proffer solution to the crisis.

According to a statement signed by its executive director, Tokunbo Mumuni and made available to Vanguard, it stated that the suffering Nigerians are enduring constitutes a violation of their rights, contrary to the words and letters of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

It stated: “This situation is incompatible with the letter and spirit of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and constitutes a serious violation of the Covenant’s provisions.”

SERAP urged the President to “exercise his authority as the Minister of Petroleum Resources by urgently prioritizing the sector and coordinating government responses to the fuel scarcity  across the country.”
