Yenagoa—Bayelsa State Government has assured workers in the state that it was working assiduously to pay off the backlog of salaries owed the workers and pensioners in the state.

•Gov Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa
In a communique after a meeting between top government officials and labour leaders, presided over by the Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha Jonah (retd), stated that organised labour was in support of the ongoing verification exercise, but it should be done in a way that will not affect genuine civil servants.
While labour appreciated the challenges of the government in meeting the salary obligations to its workers, it was resolved that, the government should call Town Hall meetings with various ministries and agencies, with a view to explaining the current economic situation to the workers directly.
The meeting further resolved that the government should liaise with the local governments and pay up outstanding salaries with the available funds, without further delay and hasten up the submission of LGA verification reports by the various committees.
