ASABA—DELTA State Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Mr. Chika Ossai, has urged Deltans to be vigilant and take proactive steps to check frequent fire outbreaks in the state.
Speaking shortly after a tour of major fire incidents in Warri and Sapele areas of the state, Ossai sympathized with the victims in Ogbe Ijaw Market, Warri; Sapele Main Market and other commercial and residential buildings engulfed by fire in the areas.
The Ogbe-Ijaw market fire incident was said to have been caused by fuel stored in one of the market stalls, while the fire that engulfed part of the Sapele Main Market was attributed to faulty electric socket.
The commissioner who visited the scene of the incidents with his entourage,to ascertain the level of damage and ways the state government could assist the victims, noted that all the victims had lost valuable property.
Expressing government readiness to alleviate their sufferings, he told the victims to be patient.
He also warned the victims against inflating their claims, saying that government gesture was to assist them in this critical time, hence it should not be abused.
