Lagos—A 22-year-old security man, Isaac Onoja, was yesterday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing $1.5 million (N295.5m) from his employer.

The defendant is facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing, failure to prevent a felony and unlawful detention preferred against him by the police.

The defendant, who is from Benue State and whose address was not given, was docked before Magistrate S. K. Matepo.

The prosecutor, Corporal Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendant and others still at large, committed the alleged offences on December 13, 2015, at Ojora Road in Ikoyi at about 8:30p.m.

Osuji said the defendant, who was employed as a security man to one Prince Hillary Unachukwu, made a false claim that he was tied up by some armed men.

The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant unlawfully detained his employer inside the house by locking him up.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate Matepo granted the defendant N500,000 bail, with two responsible sureties in like sum, adding that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant, with verified addresses and adjourned the case till February 10 for mention.
