BENIN—VICE- Chancellor of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, yesterday, described as untrue, insinuations that the university had increased tuition for students.
The Vice-Chancellor, who briefed newsmen as part of activities to mark the 41st Convocation/45th Founder’s Day of the university, which kicked off yesterday, said that the university would be conferring honorary degrees on the Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase and Prof. Osato Osagie.
Prof. Osagie is one of the foremost Consultant Gynaecologists and one of the medical personnel that spear-headed the successful innovation of the first Nigerian test tube baby.
Prof. Orumwense, on the alleged increment in tuition fees, said: “There is nothing like increase in tuition fees in UNIBEN. What I think you are talking about is the N400 added to the National Health Insurance Scheme, NIHS, by the NUC which has nothing to do with the management of the university”
