Two-time Africa Champions Cup for women winner First Bank basketball club of Nigeria is confident of picking one of the two ticket from Zone-3 qualifier slated for Cotonou, Benin Republic from November 5 through 11th, 2015.

The club currently camping in the Cotonou ahead the technical meeting billed for November 4th is in high spirit and ready for action.

Speaking with our correspondent at the weekend newly appointed coach of the Elephant Girls as the club is also known, Peter Ahmedu, that the players are responding very well to training.

Coach Ahmedu who until last week was the coach of Nigeria men league champion, Mark Mentors basketball club of Abuja joined First Bank after a brief reorganization by the club management and has promised to deliver.

Ahmedu who is not new to women basketball having worked with now rested Dodan Amazon basketball club of Lagos is determined to prove a point that his appointment as the tactician of the former Nigeria league champion is a right decision by the club management.

“Our target is to qualify from the zone and go on to prove a point that we are among the top clubs in Africa at the final round in Angola.

“Yes I might feel some pressure as First Bank was two-time champion (2003 and 2009) of the Africa Champions Cup for Women but I believe it is the same game be it men or women basketball.

“My moving over to First Bank basketball club after guiding Mark mentors basketball club to the Nigeria men league title last season is to experience a new challenge and I promise to justify the confidence the team management have in me.

“I am happy all the players are responding well to training as we look forward to a brilliant outing in Cotonou and later Angola.

First Bank finished fourth at the final round of the 2014 edition of the championship held in Sfax, Tunisia and coach Ahmedu has vowed that the club will surpass that feat this time.
