Mikel’s future at Stamford Bridge has remained a source of speculations even after he chose to stay put at ‘The Blues’ this season.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly ready to axe the Nigeria international, and it is claimed that the French midfielder is ear marked to fill the void

Nigerian fans will remember Matuidi from last year’s World Cup when he kicked out Ogenyi Onazi out of the second round match against France in Brazil.

Matuidi, 28, is contracted to PSG until 2018, and would command a fee upwards of £30m.

Manchester United and Chelsea were both linked with the player over the summer, but neither ramped up initial interest in his services.

Matuidi has been with the French champions since a 2011 move from St-Etienne.
