Abuja –  Leon Balogun, a Super Eagles defender, said on Tuesday that the Flying Eagles were capable of lifting the ongoing FIFA Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand, if they maintained their discipline.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Flying Eagles will play Germany on June 11, in the round of 16 of the tournament.

Balogun, who is in Kaduna with the Super Eagles preparatory to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Chad, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the Flying Eagles were candidates for finals.

“It’s going to be interesting because the German youth became very strong in the past years but Nigeria, especially the under-20 and the under-17, are always strong teams.

“They are always candidates for the finals but I think they are stronger physically than the German team which is what counts that is always important.

“So, it is going to be interesting but I think Nigeria will make it.

“ I think they are able to win this World Cup because they are very strong, fast, they can play and they are skillful.’’

The Super Eagles German-based defender said that the Flying Eagles was a delightful team to watch going by what it displayed against Hungary in the last group game.

“I just saw them in training once; of course Brazil is not a bad team, I think they can lose that one.

“They won the next two games and I think we can be very hopeful that they can make Nigeria proud.”

NAN reports that the Flying Eagles lost their opening match to Brazil but defeated North Korea and Hungary 4-0 and 2-0, respectively to advance to the knockout stage.

The Eagles will progress to the quarterfinals stage if they eventually beat Germany on June 11.
