BENIN—AN unknown gunman has killed a 72-year-old cleric, Reverend David Memeh, at his Government Reservation Area residence in Benin, Edo State capital.

It was learned that the late Memeh, who worshipped at the Foursquare Gospel Church, was shot twice after the gunmen gained entrance into his residence through the window to his room and took away phones of the victim and his wife.

Wife of the cleric, Deaconess Alice, said her husband, who fled from his room to hers, begged the assassins to spare his life.

Spokesman of the state Police Command, DSP Stephen Onwochei, said they had begun investiga-tion into the matter.
