ABUJA— The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has given Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, one week within which to explain why it breached approved methodology for estimated billing of electricity consumers.

To this ends, the commission has issued the Disco a query, directing it to explain within seven days why enforcement action should not be taken against it and sanctions meted accordingly.

The commission explained in the notice obtained by newsmen yesterday in Abuja that the action was a follow up to previous investigations and forensic observations of electricity distribution companies’ operations through which an unusual increases in estimated billings of electricity consumers were observed within the last quarter of 2014 by NERC.

Abuja Electricity Distribution Company and some others were subsequently invited for explanation for the unusual increase in estimated billings.
