Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja, Lagos, have smashed a notorious gang of kidnappers that had been terrorising Ojodu, Ojota and Berger areas of the state in recent times.
Vanguard gathered that the suspects, identified as Edet Ekuno, 32, Chukwudi Dickson, 40, Sunday Shamiga, 24, Hope Edet Okon, 27 and Isaiah Unuabon, 31, were apprehended in a hotel at Berger area of Lagos State, while plotting to kidnap a wealthy resident of the area.
Spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Ken Nwosu, who confirmed the arrest, said the officer in charge of the SARS, Ikeja, Abba Kyari, received an intelligence report on the gang’s activities and led a team of operatives to track and apprehend the suspects.
Nwosu added that two locally-made pistols and 18 live cartridges were recovered from the gang members, who confessed that they had robbed and kidnapped in Lagos and Akwa Ibom states.
In another development, a police surveillance team attached to Isolo Division arrested suspected cultists in Isolo area of Lagos State, reco-vering a locally-made pistol.
Vanguard gathered that the suspects were in a black Toyota Land Cruiser SUV with number plate AKD 406 BR, when they were intercepted by the policemen at Chemist Bus Stop Isolo.
It was learned that a locally made pistol with two live cartridges, assorted charms, 10 mobile phones, one horse whip and N31,000 were recovered from the gang leader, one Samson Ogunmokan.
